Renovation of St Johns Memorial Gardens, Croydon
PROJECT TITLE: Renovation of St Johns Memorial Gardens, Croydon
CLIENT: Croydon Borough Council
VALUE OF WORKS: £100K
DATE OF COMPLETION: July 2015

We completed a scheme (circa £100K) for Croydon Council at St Johns church and Memorial Gardens. The work involved installation of new footways, utilising reclaimed York stone paving and headstones from the cemetery and soft landscaping.
Whilst this was a small scheme, its sensitive nature provides evidence of our ability to work in sensitive areas and accommodate sensitive events to ensure we as a company are professional and respectful to the areas we are working. We worked closely with the representatives of the church to ensure that we did not cause unwelcome disruptions.
Due to the sensitive nature of the ground and surrounding area we agreed that no machine digging would take place and all works were completed with careful hand digging. We also ensured that cutting was carried out in designated “Isolation†areas away from the church grounds to minimise dust pollution to the area. We worked closely with the church representatives, through regular meetings to discuss and agree times when works would need to be stopped or carrying out operations that did not generate noise in order to be respectful of funerals and services.
We carefully planned and sequenced the work to ensure that we could accommodate the church and their requirements.
The following feedback was received on completion of the project –
“I felt I must drop you a quick line to praise your construction/landscape workers who have recently completed the renovation of St John’s Memorial Gardens, in the grounds of our Church. They have done a remarkable job of transforming the run down gardens, which were dark, dreary, and unwelcoming, and blighted with anti-social behaviour, into an open, bright, welcoming environment, that has seriously reduced the anti-social behaviour. The standard of work is first class, and your workers were very accommodating in downing tools or working non noisily during funerals and mass services, and I commend them for that, they are a credit to your company, and I would like you to pass on our thanks to them. The gardens are now a wonderful setting for our many wedding parties to take their photographs. We wish your company well for the future.â€
